You can make delicious, quick, and easy appetizers or brunch tarts using flaky type canned biscuits. You may have heard of a recipe in which you roll a canned biscuit around sausages or wieners and bake. This has long been a child friendly favorite in many kitchens. These appetizer recipes are a variation of that classic.
You will only need a few inexpensive ingredients that most likely are in your pantry ,fridge, or freezer right now. All you need is a mini-muffin pan, one can of flaky canned biscuits, and a few minutes prep time. Presented below are two recipes, but you can easily adapt ingredients to suit your tastes and needs.

Both Appetizers Look Casual and Delectable On A White Platter
Taco Tarts
1 can of flaky biscuits
1/2 lb of cooked ground lean beef crumbled fine
bell pepper to taste (optional).
1/3 package of taco seasoning
jalapeño jack cheese, shredded
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and rub butter into each cavity of a mini-muffin pan.
Cut each canned biscuit in half so that you have two thinner canned biscuits.
Place a biscuit in each cavity and shape neatly into a tart shape.
Meat Mixture Filling:
Brown ilb of ground beef with any of your favorite additions such as chopped onions, chopped bell pepper or none. Add 1/3 of a package of taco seasoning or more if you prefer a more spicy and salty mixture.
Fill the Tarts:
Fill each tart with 1/2 teaspoon (or more, YOU are the cook!) of the taco seasoned meat.
Top each tart with as much shredded cheese as you prefer.
Bake at 400 degrees according to instructions for biscuits on the can, or until golden brown.
Yield: twenty
Variations: Omit taco seasoning and season with your favorite Italian seasonings and a pinch of salt to the meat for Italian tarts. Use shredded mozzarella cheese instead of jalapeño jack cheese. You may also use crumbled cooked bacon instead of ground beef.
Cream Cheese Tarts
1 can of flaky biscuits
8 ounces of warm (not hot) cream cheese
3 tablespoons of sugar
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla (optional)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and rub butter into each cavity of a mini-muffin pan.
Cut each canned biscuit in half so that you will have two thinner canned biscuits.
Place a biscuit into each cavity and shape neatly into a tart shape.
Cream Cheese Mixture:
Stir sugar into warmed cream cheese. That's it. (How easy can you get?)
Fill the Tarts
Fill each tart with the cream cheese mixture.
Bake at 400 degrees according to instructions for biscuits on the can, or until golden brown.
Yield: twenty
Variations: You may add coconut, almond slivers, candy pieces, or other tiny pieces of sweets in the tart after your put in the cream cheese mixture. Push the treat down into the middle of the tart, making sure cream cheese covers it.
As you can see it is quite easy to make delicious and quick appetizers using the flaky typed canned biscuits..

I'm not a cook. But your taco tarts look inviting!
Pratonix- That's why the tarts are so great. They are great for the "I don't really cook" crowd or kids. What is hard about putting sweetened warm cream cheese in a whop biscuit? Serve with link sausage and fruit...presto! You have a company brunch!
Thanks for reading!
bayoulady, great recipes! I like the cream cheese idea and it's going to be about 30 minutes until test time. I use a lot of canned biscuits around here and as much as I like creme cheese I don't know why I haven't thought of this before. I use it mostly on home made sour dough bagels at breakfast time. Thanks for the recipe, 50
Oh I read this one at the wrong time...I just got back from working out and my protein is low...those taco tarts just made me want to start chewing on the computer screen. My mom used to do a lot of things with can biscuits that I had forgotten about over the years...kind of a fun thing to play around with. Thanks for reminding with a good write...I gotta go eat! WB
voted up & useful! I think I've gained three pounds just reading this...

KatieM, thanks for reading and commenting! Yes , it is a simple and quick. (not that healthy...but....) I am thinking of putting peach pie filling in the tart with the cream cheese on top. I think that would be scrumptious! If I do, I'll take pictures for canned biscuits part 2...ha!
Awesome simple, not sure how nutritious those biscuits are, but I'm going to make this for tonight:) Thank you, my spouse will be very surprised, something different...and as Wayne Brown said, reminds you of your moms cooking:) Great Recipe Hub!
heart4theword, Thanks for reading and commenting. Nah,they aren't the healthiest thing you'd ever stick a fork in, but quick, easy, cheap, and most of all downright tasty! I always keep a can of whop biscuits and cream cheese in the house, and if I have unexpected company,it's very versatile as a snack, desert, or appetizer.
Oh, yum! Looks so good!
Easy and cheap to make, and improvise! thanks for the comments!
Your recipes are awesome! I am bookmarking this one.
Sky321,Thanks! I appreciate your comments. Got a new one...add cinnamon and raisins in the cream cheese filling. OMG!
itchwitch ,thank you for your comments and thumbs up on the recipes.
These sound terrific, but I have never heard of canned biscuits, is the pastry raw or what. Wow I feel well behind the times. Please help me understand what canned flaky biscuits are?
Sound quick and easy. I wonder if you could add fruit or jam to the cream cheese one. I love the strawberry and cream cheese flavors together.
Eileen Hughs: I see you are from Australia. I guess you call them something else. They are similiar to crescent rolls, but less fat,and not quite as light in taste. They are not really in cans, but in the USA we just call them canned bicuits. They come 10 in a cylinder carton .The carton is made of a thick paper with metal on top and bottom.
mulberry, thanks for commenting, and passing on another good variation idea. That sounds delicious!
These look delicious! I can't wait to try these on the kids, I bet they'll gobble them up. I'm always looking for something new to serve. Thanks for the great recipes.
Hi lamme, thanks for reading and commenting! yes, they are yummy, and CHEAP!
Awwww, "Pigs in a Blanket".. that's what we called them growing up when mama would wrap wieners in them and bake! I can't wait to try the cream cheese recipe you have here. The only problem will be with making them too often if they taste as good as they are simple to make! Thanks for a great hub, bayoulady!
Hi pink, thanks so much for stopping by! Yes, my grandkids luv pigs-in-a-blanket,only they would rather have link sausage instead of weiners. The cream cheese ones are so easy to adapt by adding flavoring,or brown sugar instead of white.
Very interesting. I am always looking for easy recipes that are fun and easy to make. Didn't know you could make so many things out of canned biscuits. Thanks
thanks Pademania.....unfortunately, I am on a diet. i sure would like a taco tart right now!
